Why Pre-Schoolers Need Art Appreciation Classes?

http://www.brightjuniors.com.sg/

The outlook of art classes for nursery children has transformed from imprinting their painted fingers onto paper to exploring the world of Rivera and Van Gogh. Art is known to inspire critical thinking. When the child is forced to think and discuss it, the essence of learning is instilled without the child even knowing that he is being taught.

When did this concept start?

The concept of introducing art appreciation classes to children in pre nursery school was developed almost two decades ago in New York by a non-profit based organization which trains schools and museums on this topic.

It wasn’€™t until recently that this approach gained the attention of notable pre-schools. With the times changing so quickly, approaches in teaching must evolve accordingly.

Benefits of art learning classes

Research suggests that grasping new concepts was easier when lessons were taught visually through a visual aid. This reflected in better understanding of math and ability to read. As compared to students who were not taught using visual aid, those who were showed superior emotional and social growth. Time and again, this strategy has proven to be beneficial for English learners.

When a child is asked to look at a picture, three basic questions are imposed:

What is happening in the picture?

Justify what you see

Is there anything else in the picture besides the obvious?

By answering these questions not only is the child encouraged to think logically and rationally but also learns to substantiate their statements with valid reasoning. The child also develops an interest towards analyzing and concentration is improved.

How to start this program?

Introducing art appreciation in a pre-nursery school is fairly simple. The task can be broken down into three basic steps. First, the teacher chooses a picture to show the children -€” it may be a reprint or during a field visit to the museum. Second, the teacher observes the painting with the students. Lastly, the children are imposed with the earlier mentioned three questions.

In conclusion, art speaks to the young and old alike. Our interpretation of a piece of art evolves with us. Children, being free thinkers, have a completely different take on everything. Expressing what they feel is the first step towards learning and understanding. With art appreciation classes, children develop the ability to discuss and also understand another’s point of view.

Should preschools be mandatory for every child in Singapore?

Children studying in preschools have shown marked improvement over children who didn’t go to preschools, according to new research. A child who has attended a preschool is academically more successful and socially more accepted by other children. It has also been found that children who go to preschools get better jobs and earn more than their counterparts when they grow up. There are numerous benefits of studying in a preschool for children but should it be made mandatory for every child in Singapore?

The importance of preschools

Singapore playgroups and preschools attract high fees and that is probably one of the reasons why parents choose homeschooling over preschools. Although, there is nothing wrong with homeschooling, it does not always deliver the same results as a preschool. Some of the benefits are listed below.

1. It prepares a child for the future. Preschoolers have better problem solving skills and a higher level of understanding than others. A child’s brain is still under development and whatever it is trained to do remains for life.

2. A place to explore. Preschools provide a common ground where children gather to explore and learn about themselves and all those around them. It is their first step in a social gathering as an individual and is an excellent way to observe how their behavior will be towards others.

3. It makes them a better person. A preschool is not only about play. It is also about imparting the right education that children need to become better human beings. Apart from self-development, a preschool teaches social manner, discipline and good behavior.

There are many other important aspects about preschools and why parents should send their children to preschools.

Those who go to preschools vs. those who don’t

Research has shown that children who go to preschools are smarter and more intelligent than those who don’t. It has also conducted research on adults who had been to preschools. It shows that about 60% of those adults who went to preschools had better jobs than those who didn’t go to preschools. The research has further shown that adults who were preschoolers are less prone to doing crimes than others.

The data clearly shows the importance of studying in a preschool. Hopefully, in future the Singapore government will understand the importance and make it mandatory for parents to send their children to preschools.

How to Raise a Fit Playgroup Kid

One of the vital ways to make your playgroup kid fit is by letting them play the sport they love the most, Moreover, if you play together, not only can your child remain fit but also pick up a lot of interesting things in the process of doing so. Your playgroup kid is full of energy that they are now able to use in a better manner than their toddler years. Your playgroup kid is not only able to run around in your backyard but is now able to go after a butterfly or comfortably move around in her cute tricycle.

Kids of any playgroup in Singapore are also finding out the fun involved in playing with friends in a similar age group. As your young one starts playing with kids of her age, she also picks up critical social skills like how to take turns or share her things. While some playgroup kids may have conflicts on a few occasions while playing, they also learn how to interact and cooperate while playing.

Children can pick up new skills

Your child in a playgroup can pick up crucial motor skills while they are growing up. Some of these new skills that help them to keep fit are balancing with a single foot, skipping, catching and throwing balls, hopping forward among others. When your little one practices such activities regularly, you will notice how their fitness level changes for the better.

Your kid should enjoy the fitness activities

When you insist your kid to accompany you for a quick walk, she might get bored. Here are some easy tips to make her activity more interesting so that she shows enthusiasm in repeating it, making her fit.

How about revisiting her favorite nursery rhyme or singing a song she loves while both of you walk together? You can create a mix of walking with other fun activities such as walking backwards, jumping, racing and hopping.

You can also make your walk a unique mathematical experience when you insist on counting or playing some interesting number games.

Activities like the ones mentioned above will not only prepare your child or going to a playgroup but will also keep her fit and healthy. In case your playgroup kid is not prepared to participate in a team sport, which can be quite likely, you can help her to pursue focusing on the basic skills such riding a tricycle or even a bicycle, playing with a ball and jumping on a single foot.

Importance of arts and crafts education for children

Art is considered to be a fundamental need, a need to express our innermost emotions where words and articulation may fail us. It is something that comes naturally to most children since they are considered to be more in touch with themselves. There is something very unpretentious and pure in children pursuing artistic activities. The mind gets access to its subconscious state when engaged in artistic activity and beautiful things are produced as a result. There is a deep association with children and art, one can see it in the pencil boxes they carry or the way they decorate their files.

a-childcare-centre-afpfileroslan-rahman-525941In physiological terms, it is understood that there are two hemispheres of the brain – right and left. While the left hemisphere deals with more conventional forms of learning such as math, science and other logical studies, it is the right hemisphere that is linked with the more creative aspects such as arts. Conventionally, our education system trains the left hemisphere to a greater degree than the right. Through research it is found that the more gifted children, when applying themselves in their fields of excellence show increased electrical activity in both hemispheres of the brain. This means that in order to tap the full potential of the mind, children should have both hemispheres of the brain adequately developed, making art education just as important as math or science for children.

Apart from this, children develop motor co-ordination while practicing art and craft activities such as drawing, colouring, cutting patterns and more. Most art and craft activities demand waiting – for example, paint to dry, glue to hold, attaching shapes piece by piece to a model and all this teaches children to have patience and self control. In a study conducted by Americans for Arts, it was found that children who practice art regularly (up to 3 hours a day, 3 days a week for one year) had 4 times more probability of being recognized for intellectual achievement, taking part in a science fair or being awarded for writing or composing poetry than children who did not.

In recent times, child care centres in Singapore have taken notice of the importance of art education for children, and most of these centres do offer some form of activities for those enrolled in them. There is also an awareness on the part of the parents who want child care centres in Singapore to include art and craft education for their children.

A Game Plan Of Learning While Having Fun

The attention span of a child is often limited. To get them interested in something requires special skill sets that professionals most definitely have at the best kindergarten in Singapore. The website, http://www.ourjuniors.com.sg details the game plans of learning while having fun. Children divided into Kindergarten 1 (age five) learn the new concepts of math, some science, a new language accompanied with other interactive programs.

At age six in Kindergarten 2, they are taught to face challenges as they are prepared for primary school. They are taught a higher degree of math, science, some history and an accent on language skills. During the program, children, who at this stage are quite vocal about their needs, have a tendency to question many noticeable things.

The best kindergarten in Singapore teaches children a smattering that covers a variety of topics. During their time at the school, they learn not only the basics of education, which is of extreme importance today, but they also use their hands in being artistic. The choice to include play like singing, music, craft, art and other methods are inculcated during their time spent at school. Today, without the knowledge of the computer or smart phones, one can feel left out considerably. Try telling a child today that the phone is out of bounds, or even the remote or the laptop and he will act out. With great learning comes temper tantrums, and at the school, children learn how to keep their mood swings under wraps. They are also taught a wee bit about technology like using the mouse, researching certain topics on the internet, and other imperatives in childhood learning for the 21st century child.

Most parents work crazy shifts and looking after their children is quite a difficult task. It is also a necessity to ensure that children get the education at a playschool and kindergarten to prepare them for school life. The cozy and safe atmosphere at home is a necessity as is education. If your child has not attended any of the schools or has not been homeschooled, there is a chance that s/he will be denied a seat in regular school. In addition, in the 21st century with a plethora of information available everywhere, protecting children from knowledge is not possible. There is a natural curiosity in them, which needs to be churned for the larger picture. The little one of today may just be the next big scientist of tomorrow or the brightest rock star of the century.
